School Council plays a vital role in the governance and strategic direction of Kent Park Primary School. Councillors work collaboratively to support the ongoing improvement and sustainability of our school, ensuring decisions are made in the best interests of our students and broader community.
Key responsibilities of School Council include:
- Promoting and fostering interest in the school within the wider community
- Participating in the development, implementation and monitoring of the School Strategic Plan
- Developing, reviewing and updating school policies
- Reviewing and monitoring the Student Engagement Policy and School Dress Code
- Approving the annual budget and overseeing financial expenditure
- Supporting fundraising initiatives for school-related purposes
- Maintaining and improving the school’s grounds and facilities
- Entering into contracts for services such as cleaning and construction works
- Reporting annually to the school community and the Department of Education
School Councils play a significant role in Victorian Government schools, and being a member is both a rewarding and meaningful experience. Working as a team, Council members support the Principal to provide the best possible educational outcomes for all students.
Parents and carers are encouraged to consider the role of School Councillor. School Council meets at least eight times per year, including at least once per term. Meetings generally run for approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. A number of subcommittees are formed each year, with meetings typically held on the same evening as Council. The term of office for all members is two years.
